Database and auth
Postgres, auth, storage and row-level security — the backend behind almost everything I build.
- Pricing
- Free tier for small projects; Pro around $25/month per project with usage-based add-ons.
- Best for
- Anyone who wants Postgres with auth and storage attached, without running servers.
Why I use it
It's real Postgres, not a proprietary store. I can write SQL, add row-level security policies and still get auth, file storage and an instant API without wiring any of it myself.
How I use it
- Database plus RLS for every app, including this site's admin.
- Google and email auth without building a session layer.
- Private storage buckets for post and cover images.
What to watch
RLS is the whole security model. Get the policies right before you ship.
What works
- + Standard Postgres — no lock-in on the data itself
- + Auth, storage and API included
- + Generous free tier for prototypes
What doesn’t
- − RLS has a learning curve and punishes mistakes
- − Free projects pause when idle
- − Costs scale with usage once you grow
